Owning your own business and keeping fit at the same time is to a lot of people not something that they would include among their best business ideas. This is really unfortunate as keeping business stress at bay can be made much easier with at least some form of regular exercise.
Being busy with my own business and as a result spending a number of hours each day sitting at my desk working the PC does not do anything much for my over all health . I was gradually falling behind in overall fitness and while telling myself that I needed to do something about it, I never did really seem to get around to it. That is until one fine day, a friend of mine talked me into joining her on a fund raising walk. This is something I had never really given much thought to. But seeing it was a friend who asked and I really did not have anything major planned for the day of the event I decided to give it a go. Well let me tell you, it was the best thing that I could have done, not only for my self but for my business.
The walk itself was 10 km through a beautiful part of the country near where I live. It is a wine region and strolling through the vineyards was to say the least enjoyable. Not having done anything much exercise wise this was a really great way to start picking myself up. Going to a gym can be very time consuming and that does not necessarily fit in with heavy demands on my business time. To make the most of going to the gym one would need to go regularly. That's great if you can set a schedule where you can be free the same time of the same day at least 2 to 3 times a week. Trying to organize that when you are running your own business is a different story altogether. So doing this type of fun walk seems to be a good alternative to me.
After the first time I found out that there was another group of friends who were planning to take part in a full day walk around Sydney harbour. That sounded really daunting but being invited by a group of friends to join them I wasn't going to be the one to chicken out. Well it turned out to be a great day. And the real benefit was in the fact that when I set down behind my desk the following day, I felt like I was really ready to face any task.
So if you are in a position where owning your own business has put you in a position where you feel that things are getting to be just too much, have a look around to see if there are any events going on that you could participate in that take you away from the business without adding extra demand on your time. This could be going for a group walk as I have been doing lately or any other activity where you can meet up with some friends or make new ones. Try to do something outdoors if you can. Getting a breath of fresh air and stretching your legs will put you in a position where you will be much better able to face the challenges that come with owning your own business. I would even suggest that making this a regular habit could become one of the best business ideas that you've ever come up with.
